C-130 105mm Ammo rack Handle

On the image above the aluminum handles to pull out every round from the black rack behind the airman was braking prematurely I was tasked with solving this problem.

The handle was breaking because some Airmen would step on the handles to get on top of the rack to use for storage. Improper use off-handles, as steps, instead of for the intended purpose of pulling a 50lb round meant the handles were now taking the force of an adult male aproximatly 200lbs leading to premature component life cycle. I did Finite Element Analysis on the component to identify the where to thicken the material and where to reduce it to allow for stronger handles.

Why?

This particular project was audited by the USAF to evaluate Return Of Investement (ROI) on 3D printed metal technology. I was able to provide all documentation from start to finish with current initial procurement cost to the delivery of a Technical Data Package (TDP) to the USAF. On this project I was saving tax payers millions of dollars thru the life of the part by providing a stronger and less expensive alternative to the USAF all while being faster than current procurement times.

Audit

I worked on creating a Additive Manufacturing solution for the Antena cover on the C-130. Radar is highly clasified and so working on just a small non-classified section of the project was a privaledge. Due to sensitivity of atenta technology the image on the right shows me pointing to the component I worked on a C-130 at the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robins. The actual component I worked on is airworthy an currently flying on the C-130; Cheers!
